A growing number of jobs are available through global online work. There is significant interest in the concept of “earning money online”, as the unemployment rate continues to increase for graduates in the province—even for those with technical degrees. To this end, The KP IT Board launched the Youth Employment Program (YEP) in 2016, which is one of the first publicly funded training programs on digital freelancing in the world. This has been one of the most promising projects and we received excellent outcomes from the first phase of the project. The YEP phase-1 that ended in January 2017 completed training of 2100 trainees in 7 districts of KP. It is one of the few projects where we saw the results coming in the form of trainees testimonials about their online earnings after the program. The statistics that we collected (mostly through voluntary responses) show over 40,000 USD earning by the trainees. With the completion of the first phase of the Youth Employment Program, KPITB has launched the 2nd phase of the program on an even bigger scale and a much broader scope by training 40,000 youth in the digital skills. Till date a total of 3,500 youth has been trained under the 2nd phase.
