As the first building block of KPITB’s Digital Policy for addressing youth employment through the digital economy, “Addressing supply side constraint by building a skilled workforce”, KPITB initiated its flagship program “KP Youth Employment Program (KPYEP)”. Being Pakistan’s first digital skills platform, KPYEP connects youth with training, skills and employment opportunities, using a flexible and adaptive approach to accommodate the rapidly changing demands of the digital economy.
KP Youth Employment Program aims to empower 40,000 un and under employed youth in the province by providing a range of basic, intermediate and advance level skills in IT and linking them with employment opportunities. This will create a larger base of IT workers in the province, who can be tapped as the market develops. The program aims to reduce the industry academia skills gap by providing short courses that enhance employability in a changing economy.
In 2016 Phase 1 of KPYEP commenced and equipped 2100 youth from the province with digital skills of the future, out of which 30% had successfully started earning online through different freelancing platforms. As per the updates of September 14, 2018, a total of 7658 youth had been equipped with different digital skills under phase 2, out of which 5200 had successfully completed their assessments.
